About the teacher
My name is Monica Maragh. It seems like just yesterday when I looked out at my first class of eager learners during my first year teaching. I have had the honor of being awarded Teacher of the Year twice --once even while here at McConnell Middle School in 2012 and at Mandarin Oaks in Jacksonville, Florida in 2005! I was awarded Exemplary Teacher of the Month at McConnell in February 2016. Also, as a member of the 2016 Teachers As Leaders graduating Class, I was given the honor of being one of two to represent our teacher graduates by speaking before a bevy of our county's principals and board members and the GCPS superintendent. How exciting to be honored doing something that I absolutely love-being a teacher-leader! I always tell my students that if I ever won the lottery, I would still be involved in education somehow! In Decemeber 2017, I was accepted into Gwinnett County's Aspiring Leader Program and am excited about further leadership opportunities.
Some of my hobbies are reading, walking, sewing, dancing, writing, shopping, beachcombing, playing the flute and piano, traveling, watching professional sporting events, church activities, and hanging out with my family and friends.
I presently possess a Bachelor's Degree in Elem. Education and a Master's Degree in English. I am also certified to teach grades Pre K-12 , and Math Pre K- 7. I completed the Georgia DOE Formative Instructional Practices (FIP) professional learning in 2015. I am also Gifted certified and graduated from the GCPS Teachers as Leaders program in 2016. Additionally, I am a member of the 2016 GCPS Assessment's office Performance Tasks Development Team.
If you were to peek into my classroom, you would see many student -centered activities. I believe that students learn best when they "own" their learning and are guided to discover meaning for themselves in classroom lessons. I try to plan creative lessons that will reach all kinds of learners. I also offer my students many opportunities to weave-in technology and critical thinking of all sorts in order to enhance their learning. I believe in promoting intellectual curiosity and creativity. My students create powerful argumentative essays, moving narratives, scripts for puppet shows, discussion points for a Socratic Seminar, podcasts, and mock trials. Everyday is an adventure in middle school, and what a joy it is to be able to celebrate learning with my students here at McConnell Middle School!

REMIND - Remind (formerly Remind101) is a safe, free way for teachers to text message students and keep in touch with parents.
How does it work?
***First, a teacher adds his/her class, which generates a unique code. The teacher then shares that code with students or parents. At that point, any student or parent who sends a text message with the code will be "subscribed" to the teacher's class.
